Audiovisual Installation by Cristina Picchi for the Façade of the Church of San Francesco

An audiovisual work that tells the stories of the people living in the neighbourhoods surrounding Piazza San Francesco, weaving their lives together with the thought, humanity, and radical vision of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Through an attentive and participatory gaze, the work reveals a human landscape shaped by relationships, vulnerabilities, and forms of resilience. The contemporary dimension is reflected in the figure of Francis, evoked not as a distant memory but as a living presence capable of resonating in the practices, gestures, and lives of today.

The installation creates a dialogue between urban space and spiritual experience, transforming individual stories into a collective encounter and inviting reflection on the meaning of community, belonging, and mutual care.

The work is produced in collaboration with Associazione Fermento, an organisation deeply rooted in the San Francesco neighbourhood and actively engaged in promoting cultural and social participation.

Cristina Picchi is a filmmaker, artist, and writer. She has written, directed, and edited short films, documentaries, and video installations presented at international festivals and institutions, receiving numerous awards, including the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival and nominations for Best Short Film at both the David di Donatello Awards and the European Film Awards.

She has participated in prestigious international residency and fellowship programmes, including the European Media Art Network (Montréal), Cité internationale des arts (Paris), MuseumsQuartier (Vienna), and IASPIS (Stockholm). She is also an alumna of Berlinale Talents, IDFA Academy, and TorinoFilmLab.
